Things To Do In Bodega Bay, California

Bodega Bay is a small fishing village in Sonoma County, California. It has undeveloped coastlines, the Pacific's highest headlands, hidden coves and hidden beaches. Wildlife lives in the water, in the air, and in the coastal mountains. It is known for recreation and entertainment, and is especially popular among San Francisco Bay residents as a beach resort where life is slow and away from nature.

Here are some of my favorite things to do in Bodega Bay, California.

1. Sonoma Coast Winery

Sonoma Coast Vineyards is an essential stop on the way to Bodega Bay. The elegant and comfortable room is the perfect place to experience the spirit of the Bodega while tasting unique wines from Sonoma Coast vineyards. Coastal grape growers in the cool-climate wine country west of the Russian River Valley. Some vineyards are just 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The climate is harsh, productivity is low and deer are hungry. Still, the results are surprising and unique to this part of California.

Your taster will help you select a variety of local wines. Get your first taste of Bodega Bay from the grape, then choose a bottle or two for a sunset picnic or fireside nightcap.

2. Dolan beach

Doran Regional Park is an example of the landscape and wildlife surrounding Bodega Bay. The 127-acre park has 2 miles of sandy beach where you can walk, fly a kite, surf, sand build, listen to the sound of seals or just watch the waves roll in. Walk through the grassy dunes or find a place to eat. There is a boat dock and parking. Additionally, the park features biking and hiking, equestrian trails, fishing, bird watching, and accessible areas.

Pro Tip:

You can enjoy relaxing kayaking, paddling, and exploring the harbor wetlands. Bodega Bay Kayak is a great place to purchase equipment. If you're not bringing your own equipment, they offer free lessons and equipment rental.

If you love surfing, head to South Salmon Creek Beach in Sonoma Coast State Park when the weather is nice.

3. Pelican Square Market

Pelican Plaza Market, delicatessen, wine and cheese shop sells locally produced fish, meat, dairy products, wine, beer and many other foods I can list. When you first arrive, stop by the beach for picnic supplies or stock up on your mini fridge. Homemade desserts and sandwiches are offered at the deli counter. Every day starts at 7 am and the coffee pot is never empty.

4. Osmosis Spa

Osmosis Spa and relaxing Zen Gardens await your arrival. Enjoy a cedar enzyme bath and then relieve the stress of the day with a 75-minute Swedish Esalen Massage. This popular variation includes long strokes and therapeutic stretches.

After your treatment, you can spend time in one of five beautiful gardens: meditation garden, Japanese tea garden, hammock area, secluded pagoda, streamside or group.

5. Find Alfred Hitchcock in Bodega Bay

If you are a Hitchcock fan, you know that the famous movie The Birds was shot in Bodega Bay and Bodega. Many movie theaters are easy to find. One of the most famous is in the inland town of Bodega. Potter School was used as the school in the movie. Learn more about the film and location on the Bodega Bay and Surroundings website.

Pro Tip: Go to Casino Bar & Grill in Bodega. Here you can meet locals and enjoy hamburgers and cold beer.

6. Bodega Bay Seafood

Bodega Bay is one of the last small fishing villages on the California coast. After a while, fresh seafood and canned fish are good here. The piers are full of companies whose motto is "If it can float, so can we." The caught fish were purchased and distributed to San Francisco restaurants, hotels and stores.
A small fleet of fishing boats remain in Bodega Harbor and seasonally catch salmon, cod, grouper, albacore tuna, halibut and, of course, Dungeness crab. You'll find the fruits of working fishermen all over Bodega Bay. It has a unique "hook-to-mouth, network-to-mouth" freshness.
Bodega Bay has a variety of restaurants to suit every taste and budget. It's hard to go wrong with one of these. These are my two favorites.

Drakes Sonoma Coast focuses on the freshest food on the Sonoma Coast. The executive chef specializes in local, sustainably sourced ingredients. The large stone fireplace and panoramic views of Bodega Bay and the ocean create a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Wines from Sonoma County, craft beers and tempting cocktails are served at the restaurant, bar and around the outdoor fireplace. The Drakes stay at the Bodega Bay Lodge and have breakfast and dinner.

Spud Point Crab Company is a tent where the crabs are always hot. Spud's also serves red and white clam chowder, crab cakes, seafood cocktails, sandwiches, and amazing bacon. This is a place where you order at the window and take your food to the outdoor dining table or in the parking lot across the street.

7. Bird Walk Coastal Path

Bodega Bay is located on the Pacific Flyway and offers excellent birding opportunities.
Bird Walk Shore Access Road is a place where resident and migratory birds can be found. This 1.19-kilometer trail winds along the salt lake and around the two freshwater lakes at the pier. The area provides year-round habitat for songbirds, waterfowl and shorebirds. I especially like pelicans. They fly and swim in accordance with the dance choreography of the troupe.

The road is flat and rocky. It is wheelchair accessible and has a pedestrian bridge connecting Bird Trail to Dolan Regional Park.

Pro Tip: Find more birding sites in Sonoma County Regional Parks - Find
Parks.

8. Bodega's head

Bodega Head, a granite rock jutting into the Pacific Ocean, is 4 miles long and 1 mile wide, protecting Bodega Bay from the powerful force of the Pacific Ocean. 360-degree panoramas of the Pacific Ocean and underground Bodega are a photographer's must.

Hold on to your hat on the Pacific side. This year-round hurricane makes it one of the best whale watching spots in the area. There are walking paths, beach access, picnic tables and restrooms. Nearby wildlife include seals, whales and seabirds.

Try fishing, or launching a kayak or paddleboard from the pier.
Pro Tip: From January to May, people volunteer to help you spot the giant. They have indicator lights and good lighting and can answer your whale watching questions.

9. Bodega Pier Laboratory

Bodega Marine Laboratory (BML) is a research and education center at UC Davis that provides scientific evidence for today's challenging environmental problems. BML examines the impact of habitat, recreation and commercial activities on the coast. 4,444 aquariums and exhibits showcase native aquatic life in habitats including rainforests and lakes. Docent-led tours are also available.
